St. Stephen's is located at 142 Crescent Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey 07060. We hold our services in the stone chapel pictured to the left, which is part of the historic Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church.
From Route 22 East: Turn right onto Somerset St. in North Plainfield. Continue on Somerset St. through North Plainfield into the heart of Plainfield, where Somerset St. becomes Park Ave. Turn left onto E. 7th Street. Go to the first traffic light and turn right on Crescent Avenue. St. Stephen's will be on your left at the end of the first block.
From Route 22 West: Take the exit for Terrill Road (at the traffic light where Sears is in Watchung). The jug-handle exit will take you across Route 22 and onto Terrill Road. Proceed on Terrill Road to E. 7th Street and turn right. As you pass the traffic light at Watchung Ave. you will be crossing the front of the Crescent Ave. Presbyterian Church. Before you are fully past the church you come to a second traffic light. Turn left at this light onto Crescent Ave. You will see the entrance to St. Stephen's on your left at the end of the first block.
From Route 78 East: Take Exit 40. At the end of the exit ramp turn right onto Hillcrest Road. Hillcrest will merge into Valley Road in Watchung and you will immediately come to an exchange where several roads converge. You will follow signs for Plainfield at this exchange which will lead you almost three quarters of the way around a circle and put you onto Somerset St. Just before Somerset intersects with Route 22 you will turn left where the sign points to Plainfield. This will take you up to a bridge crossing over Route 22. Stay in the left lane as you cross over Route 22 and turn left at the T-intersection. You will still be on Somerset St. Continue straight on Somerset St. through North Plainfield into the heart of Plainfield, where Somerset will turn into Park Ave. Turn left onto East 7th Street. Go to the first traffic light and turn right on Crescent Avenue. St. Stephen's will be on your left at the end of the first block.
From Route 78 West: Take Exit 40. At the end of the exit ramp you will turn left onto Hillcrest Road. Hillcrest will merge into Valley Road in Watchung and you will immediately come to an exchange where several roads converge. Stay in the left lane and follow signs for Plainfield and Mulhenberg Hospital at this exchange, which will lead you almost three quarters of the way around a circle and put you onto Somerset St. Just before Somerset intersects with Route 22 West you turn left where the signs point to Plainfield and Mulhenberg Hospital. This will take you up to a bridge crossing over Route 22. Stay in the left lane as you cross over Route 22 and turn left at the T-intersection. You will still be on Somerset St. Continue straight on Somerset St. through North Plainfield into the heart of Plainfield, where Somerset will turn into Park Ave. Turn left onto East 7th Street. Go to the first traffic light and turn right on Crescent Avenue. St. Stephen's will be on your left at the end of the first block.
From Route 287 North: Take Exit 5 towards Edison/Dunellen. Bear right onto Stelton Road. Go .07 mile and bear right onto S. Washington Ave. (Route 529). At the intersection of Washington and W. 7th Street turn right. Follow W. 7th Street into Plainfield. At the first light after you cross Park Street you will turn right onto Crescent Ave. St. Stephen's will be on your left at the end of the first block.
From Route 287 South: Take Exit 6 towards Piscataway/Dunellen. Go a short distance and Continue on S. Washington Ave. (Route 529). Turn left onto Stelton Road, which will soon become S. Washington again. Continue on S. Washington Ave. Turn right onto W. 7th Street. Proceed to the traffic light at Crescent Ave. (about 3 miles) and turn right at the light onto Crescent. St. Stephen's will be on your left at the end of the first block.
From the Garden State Parkway North: Remain in the far right lane as you enter the Union Toll booths and take Exit 142 immediately after you pay the toll. You must be in the extrem right lane to make this exit. This will put you on Route 78, but heading East. You will proceed a short distance to Exit 54 (Hillside/Irvington). The exit ramp will divide. Stay in the right lane (towards Hillside). At the top of the exit ramp you will turn right which will lead you back over Route 78. Stay in the right lane and take the first exit ramp down, which will put you back on Route 78 heading in the correct direction (West). Look for signs to Clinton and follow the directions above for Route 78 West.
From the Garden State Parkway South: Take Exit 142 which will put you on Route 78 West. Follow the signs for Clinton and follow the directions for Route 78 West above.
From the New Jersey Turnpike (North or South): Proceed to Exit 14 (Route 78 West). After exiting the toll booth you will stay to the left and follow signs for Route 78 West (Express/Clinton). Follow directions above for Route 78 West.
